About Us

What does it take to deal with boisterous, energetic, sometimes naughty dogs? To teach them that we are not only partners, but also teachers, and when the time calls, leaders?

It takes a Valkyrie.

Hi, I’m Rose Mansavage

(and yes, that is my real last name)

Despite it, I’m plenty kind and personable, as your furry friend will come to know, though I do still understand that you have to be firm when it comes to breaking bad habits and shaping the attitudes you want to see in your puppies or dogs.

That’s why I chose the name Valkyrie Dog Training. The Valkyrie are those female warriors from Norse mythology, both tough with their spirit and demeanor, but still showing compassion and empathy. I like to think that both my personality and my training style reflect these same two sides, combining the training experience I’ve honed over my lifetime.

I’ve ALWAYS been around animals, since back when I was young. From chickens and peacocks to goats and horses and everything in between, I’ve always been interested in learning more about the behavior of my furry (and feathery) friends. As I grew older, that same fascination led me to UW-Madison where I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology.

In 2009, I became a Police K9 Handler with the City of Madison Police Department. Here I am with K9 Martie (on the right) and K9 Falko (on the left). My experience with both of these two loves taught me how high performing and intelligent police dogs worked.  Not only did I sharpen my canine behavior reading skills, I also learned first hand the importance of having a reliable canine partner by your side.

After leaving the police department in 2019, I volunteered with the Custom Canine Service Dog Academy to train an adult boxer named Titan, who was later paired to serve a U.S. Veteran. Then came Rogue, a German Shepard I trained in my own breeding program who went on to serve another U.S. Veteran.

Fast forward to today where I work to train a variety of dogs in areas such as: obedience (basic and advanced commands), behavior modification (jumping, barking, counter surfing), and a wide variety of other skills to meet the needs of the owners.

I’m an active member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, an American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen (and S.T.A.R. Puppy) Instructor/Evaluator, and I continue to remain committed to lifelong learning about cutting edge information and approaches to dog training.

Success Stories

Valkyrie Dog Training has been proudly serving the Southeastern Wisconsin community,
here are some of the things our customers have to say about working with us:

Denyse Stoneman

We’ve recently worked with other trainers for our two strong-willed Goldendoodles, but found their approaches either heavy-handed or gimmicky. Not for us, nor effective with our dogs. We love Rose’s background and abilities as a former K-9 cop, as well as her honest, straightforward approach. She really listens and offers no gimmicks. We’ve only just started, but are feeling hopeful. Highly recommend.

Genie Trewyn

Working with Rose was easy and effective! She came to our home and really listened to our concerns and provided us with easy to use techniques. I would highly recommend her in providing quality training for any age dog.
